Father’s Day Party Special Dish: Biltong Pasta With Mushrooms



Father’s Day is near and you would be looking for ways to offer your dad a true surprise.
You know what- men love delicious recipes and this summer, you can prepare your own biltong pasta dish to offer a heavenly treat to your dad. And this could be prepared in a large quantity too for your party.

Here is an amazing biltong pasta recipe that contains mushrooms too and could serve as many as 50 people in your father’s day party.


The Preparation Ingredients:

  • Spaghetti- 1.5 kilograms
  • Biltong- 1 KG (traditional or periperi biltong)
  • Button mushrooms- 500 grams
  • Cheddar cheese- 1 kg (grated)
  • Sour Cream- 750 ml
  • Onions (large)- 12 Nos.
  • Bell peppers (green and red)
  • Chicken Stock- about 5 teacups
  • Tomato paste- 8 tablespoon
  • Veggies (seasonal or frozen)- about 1 KG (this one is optional)
  • Green herbs and garlic for flavors
  • Salt and black pepper for seasoning


To Prepare The Sauce:

  • Take about 3 to 4 liters of waters in a container, add chicken stock, herbs and tomato paste and bring this mixture to boil.
  • Allow it to get heated until its consistency turns thick.


To Prepare The Pasta:

  • Take a pan, drizzle a generous portion of olive oil and add onions, garlic and green peppers to it. Fry this until the onions turn soft.
  • If you opted to include veggies, add these to the pan.
  • Place your pasta, add thickened tomato sauce and place the lid. Let it get cooked for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • After it gets cooked, check the veggies and see if it is fine enough according to your father’s taste. A bit crunchy veggies would always be a good option in pasta.
  • To this cooked mixture, add sour cream, mushrooms and mix them together well.
  • Add chopped peri peri biltong, cheddar cheese and mix it again. Let the heat be low and cook it at the same heat for about 30 more minutes.
  • Add grated parmesan cheese over the entire mixture.
Your biltong-mushroom-pasta is ready to serve and this is best served hot with some salads.

Biltong-Parmesan Burgers: How To Prepare The Taste-Bomb

  • Tomatoes- thinly sliced for toppings
  • Beetroot- shredded for toppings
  • Watercress- For topping
  • Salt and black pepper- as per your taste

Preparation Method:

  • Roll the minced beef and divide it in 2. Offer it the shape of a round pattyand heat in on a hot pan. Sprinkle salt and pepper and turn them brown on each side.
  • Mix the grated parmesan and biltong and keep them aside. Transfer the cooked patties to the grill and sprinkle the biltong-parmesan mixture generously. Let it be grilled for about 5 minutes.
  • Toss the seeded buns on the pan for about a minute. If you want them rich, add a teaspoon of butter to the pan.
  • Mix the mayo and mustard together. For more spiciness, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper. Take a bun and spread this mixture on it.
  • Put the grilled patty on top and garnish it with sliced tomatoes, shredded beetroot,and watercress.
  • Sprinkle some more biltong-parmesan mixture above this if you want. Do this with the other bun too.

  • Additional Fat- about 300 grams
  • Droewors casings
  • Spices of your choice- coriander, black pepper, nutmeg, and cloves etc.
  • Salt- as per your taste

The Preparation Method:

  • Mix the minced meat and the fat in a container. The less is the amount of fat, leaner would be your Droewors. But if the fat is very less, the delicacies may come out dry. Be very careful!
  • Add spices to the mixture, mixing it very carefully with your hands. Transfer the meat to the refrigerator for about 3 hours and let the spices sink in the meat.
  • After the stipulated time, take the container out and mix the spices again.
  • Fill the casings with the minced meat mixture, ensuring no air entrance in the same. You can use plastic casings or sheep casings which are easily available.
  • Allow the packed mixture to dry at a temperature of 30oC with UV light on for about 24 hours.
  • After this, hang the Droewors on a metal or plastic hook and allow them to dry. Avoid hanging them on wooden pegs.
  • The meat should be allowed to dry for about 5 days, after which it is ready to be consumed.
